Applying for Housing

How do I apply for housing? Tsukumodai and Minohsemba

What sort of costs can I expect at move-in? Tsukumodai and Minohsemba
Upon move-in, we will have you pay a lump sum which will be the cleaning fee when you move out.
Costs that will occur each month are room rent, common charges, equipment rental fees (furniture, etc.), internet fees, . For more information on the amounts, please check each facilitiy's website.
For those who will make use of the parking lot, bicycle parking lot, motorbike parking lot, storage units, furniture, or other optional rentals, those fees will be collected separately each month.

You will have internet access in the common area and in your room.
Please note that the cost of internet access (which is mandatory) will be separate from your rent.
Is everything electronic? Tsukumodai
Only the bath uses gas, and everything else is electronic (the kitchen has an induction heated stove).

Can I apply for a GV spot even if I have already lived at a different OU student dormitory? Tsukumodai and Minohsemba
Those who have already moved out from other dormitories can apply. If you are living in another dormitory, please consult with the Housing Management Section first. In either case, the period of residence in the school dormitory will be counted, and the maximum period for international students will be one year, and the minimum period for Japanese students will be the minimum period of employment.

The dwelling places for female and male students are clearly divided for each unit.
What security measures do you have in place for women students? Tsukumodai
The dwelling places for female and male students are clearly divided for each unit, and traveling between them is not permitted.
Do I have to go through any additional procedures to get utility (electricity, gas, water) service? Tsukumodai
There is no need to set up electricity, gas, and water at Tsukumodai, since these costs for the common areas and each room are included in the common service costs.
Will you take religious or other such considerations into account when assigning rooms or determining how the facilities may be used, etc.? Tsukumodai and Minohsemba
We will consider any feasible requests.
What will the ratio of Japanese to international students be in each unit? Tsukumodai
In keeping with the Global Village concept, students from Japan will be divided amongst the available units to the greatest possible extent.
The actual ratio will depend on the residency situation, but we anticipate that there will be one to two students from Japan in each unit.
With the GV being a shared housing environment, what will the ratio of international students to Japanese students be? Tsukumodai and Minohsemba
There will be roughly three international students for each student from Japan.
What sort of experience can I expect to gain by interacting with people from around the world in the GV? Tsukumodai
Japanese students will take charge of coordinating with the boarding students in their unit as the leaders of the unit. Also, in addition to various events with the purpose of international and regional exchange in the dorms, participation in the dorm's educational programs allows students to work on their ability to think and make decisions from a global perspective through group work and workshops with foreign students.
With the GV being a shared environment where I would be living alongside international students, will I need to have proficiency in a foreign language? Tsukumodai and Minohsemba
You do not need to have any foreign language proficiency in order to be considered for a dormitory place. However, having the ability to communicate with international students will benefit the flow of your day-to-day life at the dormitory, and will also make your GV experience more meaningful. More than current language proficiency, what we are looking for most from students interested in living in the GV is a genuine desire to live and interact with international students on an everyday basis.
Will I be able to change my unit? Tsukumodai
Barring special circumstances, no changes will be permitted.
Can I apply for both Tsukumodai and Minoh? Tsukumodai and Minohsemba
Yes, you can apply for both.
If you receive a large number of applications, how will they be judged? Tsukumodai and Minohsemba
There is a selection process for international students. For students from Japan, in the event that we receive a large number of applications, places will be assigned by random drawing.
Can I stay short-term (for example, for two weeks)? Tsukumodai and Minohsemba
Short-term stays are not permitted.
How often is the inside of the unit cleaned? Tsukumodai
Each unit will be cleaned by the dormitory students who live in that unit. Regarding the cleaning place and frequency, etc., please consult within the unit.
In addition, the management staff will visit the unit once a week to check the cleaning status.
Can I pay the dormitory fee with a credit card or electronic money? Tsukumodai and Minohsemba
Dormitory fees can be paid by account transfer or convenience store transfer designated by the management company of the school dormitory. Payment by credit card or electronic money is not possible.
Is there a curfew in the dormitory? Tsukumodai and Minohsemba
There is no curfew in the dormitory
If I study abroad, do I have to move out of the dormitory? Can I secure a room during my study abroad period by paying the rent? Tsukumodai and Minohsemba
If your study abroad period is longer than half a year, you will be asked to move out. A room cannot be guaranteed.
Can I have my family and friends stay overnight? Tsukumodai and Minohsemba
In principle, the dormitory is off-limits to non-dormitory students, and it is not possible to allow family members or friends to stay overnight. However, family members and friends who come to help with the move can enter by following the prescribed procedures. (Lodging is not possible.)
Can I enter the dormitory while I am on leave? Tsukumodai and Minohsemba
Students who are on leave of absence cannot apply for a new dormitory. If a student currently living in the dormitory takes a leave of absence, regardless of the reason, it is possible to stay in the dormitory for up to 6 months. If you stay longer than 6 months, you will be asked to leave the dormitory.
Also, if your student registration expires due to graduation, withdrawal, or termination of the program, you will lose your dormitory eligibility.
I am a graduate student. Can I enter the dormitory? Tsukumodai and Minohsemba
Only the private room type of Global Village Tsukumodai can accommodate graduate students.
What time can I move into the dormitory? Tsukumodai
In principle, move-in hours are from 9:00 to 18:00
What happens if I accidentally deface or damage the fixtures, etc. in the dormitory or room? Tsukumodai and Minohsemba
Regardless of intent or negligence, you will be required to pay compensation. We recommend that you take out renter's liability insurance, etc., just in case.

Instructor Housing

Will I be able to choose my room? Tsukumodai
You will be able to choose whether your room is a Studio (single room with kitchen), Single (one bedroom with living/dining room and separate kitchen), or Family (three bedrooms with living/dining room and separate kitchen) apartment, but you will not be able to select a specific room within your chosen category, as they are assigned by random drawing.
When you apply, you may make a request for reasonable accommodation, such as for accessibility-related reasons.
Can I apply for a GV place even if I have already lived at another OU instructor housing facility? Tsukumodai
Yes, you can still apply.

Can families (such as married couples) live in Standard apartments? Tsukumodai
No, that is not possible.
Are there rent subsidies? Tsukumodai
Since they are welfare facilities, they are exempt from benefits, as with other existing dorms.
Are newly hired faculty members the only ones with the right to apply? Tsukumodai
Faculty members that have already been hired may also apply.
Are there elevators? Tsukumodai
There are 4 elevators in the wing with single quarters.
The elevators in the wing with single quarters will be used by families and those living away from their families.
I am a newly hired employee, when can I move in? Tsukumodai
You can move in from 7 days before the adoption date.
If I move in or move out in the middle of the month, will the accommodation fee, parking fee, bicycle parking fee, and common service fee be prorated? Tsukumodai
Lodging fees and parking fees are pro-rated on a daily basis. The bicycle parking lot usage fee and common service fee are not prorated and will be charged monthly.
Are there dormitories for faculty and staff other than Global Village Tsukumodai? Tsukumodai

Can students also use car parking spaces? Tsukumodai
Car parking spaces are not available to students. Students can use bicycle parking spaces (including motorcycle parking).

Others

What kind of measures are you taking about the COVID-19 infection? Tsukumodai
Antiseptic alcohol, etc. is placed at the building entrance, common spaces, and common units of the dormitory.
In addition, we are enlightening residents about corona countermeasures through notices, etc.
In the unlikely event that an infected person appears in the dormitory, we will take measures such as having you move from the unit.
Can I buy daily necessities nearby? Tsukumodai
There is a convenience store within a 3-minute walk from the dormitory, and there are convenience stores, supermarkets, 100-yen shops, pharmacies, etc. around the nearest station, Hankyu Yamada Station (about 10 minutes on foot).
Are there medical facilities nearby? Tsukumodai
There are multiple hospitals such as internal medicine and dentistry in the adjacent "patona Global Village Tsukumodai" and the "Senri Tsukumo Medical Building" within a 5-minute walk.
As a nearby general hospital, there is "Osaka Prefecture Saiseikai Senri Hospital" in the immediate vicinity (about 3 minutes on foot) of Minami Senri Station (1 station from Hankyu Yamada Station).
Do you have a smoking space? Tsukumodai
There is a smoking corner on site. (Smoking is prohibited in the common areas except for the smoking area.
Smoking is permitted in Buildings B and C, but smoking is prohibited in Building A.
Do you have someone to talk to if you have any problems? Tsukumodai
If you have any questions about life in the dormitory, please consult with the manager.
For other matters related to university life, please consult with the resident tutor. Resident tutors live in dormitories.
Where is the nearest station? Please let me know how long it takes to get to the station. Tsukumodai
The nearest stations are Hankyu Senri Line "Yamada" Station and Osaka Monorail "Yamada" Station.
From the dormitory, it takes about 6 minutes on foot to Hankyu Senri Line "Yamada" station, and about 8 minutes on foot to Osaka Monorail "Yamada" station.
How long does it take to travel to each campus? Tsukumodai
【Suita Campus】
Dormitory (walk) → Take the Osaka Monorail at Yamada Station → Get off at "Handai Byoin-mae" station → From there, it takes about 30 minutes on foot to the Suita Campus Administration Building.
【Toyonaka Campus】
Dormitory (walk) → Take the Osaka Monorail at Yamada Station → Get off at "Shibahara Handai-mae" station → From there, it takes about 30 minutes to the center of Toyonaka Campus on foot.
【Minoh Campus】
Dormitory (walk) → Take the Osaka Monorail at Yamada Station → Get off at Senri-Chuo Station → From there, it takes about 40 minutes to the Minoh Campus on foot.
